Onam is the biggest and the most important festival of the state of Kerala, and is its national festival since 1961. It is a harvest festival and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm all over the state by people of all communities.
The Onam pookalam is a popular artwork created with bright and colorful flowers. The word "Poo" means "flower" and "Kalam" means "artwork". So, a proclaim is considered as a floral Rangoli. A Rangoli is basically a wall art or floor art.
