Kollam: In a major relief for students, Kerala’s General Education Minister V. Sivankutty has announced that the Class 10 syllabus will be reduced by up to 25% from the next academic year. The decision aims to ease the heavy academic burden faced by students, especially those preparing for the SSLC examination.

The minister stated that the move comes after receiving repeated complaints that the Class 10 syllabus is excessively demanding. He also revealed that three students had recently submitted a memorandum requesting a reduction in the Social Science syllabus, which was carefully considered before taking this decision.

According to the minister, the syllabus revision process has already begun, and the reduced curriculum will be implemented in the upcoming academic year. The reform is expected to make learning more student-friendly and reduce exam-related stress.

The announcement was made during a key handover ceremony held at Thevalakkara, where a newly constructed house was handed over to the family of Mithun, a student who tragically lost his life due to electrocution. The house was built by Bharat Scouts and Guides as part of their social service initiative.

Education experts and parents have welcomed the decision, hoping it will lead to a more balanced and effective learning experience for students across Kerala.
